The Fondazione IRCCS Ca’ Granda Ospedale Maggiore Policlinico includes a number of centers aimed to cure and scientific research, recognized at international level.
About 3 million outpatients and 46.000 inpatients are followed very year, and 2 million diagnostic exams carried out for the most common diseases (cardiovascular, hematologic, hepatologic, psychiatric, etc.)
The IRCCS has a Dept. of Neuroscience and Mental Health, including 5 Units:
– Neurology and Stroke unit
– Neurology – Neuromuscular and Rare Diseases – Neurology – Neurodegenerative and Demyelinating Diseases – Neurophysiopathology – Psychiatry
There is a direct collaboration with other Units:
– Neuroradiology
– Neurosurgery
– Nuclear Medicine
– Ophthalmology
– Pediatric Neuropsychiatry
Scientific research is the primary mission of the Institution, aiming to translate research from bench to bedside. The aim of the research is the study of molecular and genetic pathogenic mechanisms at the basis of neurological diseases, including neuromuscular diseases (muscular dystrophy, motor neuron disease, mitocondriopathies, etc.), neurodegenerative diseases (Alzheimer’ diseases and related dementia, Parkinson’s disease, etc.), cerebrovascular and demyelinating diseases.
Moreover, in these disorders there are studies on the identification of early and progression biomarkers and several clinical trials with innovative disease- modifying drugs.
